Our U13 Hurlers hosted Colt Shanahoe on Monday evening in their third Hurling League game.
Both teams settled down to business straight away, Port played short quick ball down the field and Maitiu Hopkins opened Ports scoreline
with a tasty point from a high catch and struck it right between the posts. Tom Maher was on fire and quickly added two goals before half time.
Colt Shanahoe held their own despite the pressure. Port advanced their score to a six-point lead bringing a half time scoreline of Port 2.06 (12), Colt Shanahoe 1.03 (6).
The shower of rain at the opening of play for the second half damped the jerseys but not the will for the boys to press on. Tommy Walker was a key figure in Ports control of the game. Ports momentum was slowed by an advancing Colt Shanahoe, who clawed back the gap to a two-point difference. Our defenders felt the heat with every high ball that was dropped into the goalmouth. Liam Mullin & Eoin Loftus never faltered in defence and saved Port from a different outcome.
Port hung on and claimed a one-point victory in the end.
